Roughly 70 percent of the planet is covered in water. Up to 65 percent of the human body is comprised of water too. If an alien landed on earth they would consider water a big deal, yet the average person doesn’t give it the respect it deserves.
This is especially true in your own home. There are lots of water tips and tricks you could implement right now, but you probably don’t have a clue about any of them. Let’s change that by looking at a few today you’ll definitely find come in handy.
Only Drink Fresh Water
If you don’t put the right things into your body you can’t expect to stay completely healthy. This applies to the water you drink too. Water might be fine when it leaves the plant, but it will pick up lots of contaminants in the pipes. If you have a drinking water filtration system it will get rid of everything you don’t want in your body, plus as an added bonus it will taste a lot better.
Protect Your Garden Tap
Later on we’re going to look at how you can avoid using your garden tap, but I’m sure you’ll use it occasionally anyway. When it starts to get cold you need to turn off the water supply to the tap. It’s also a good idea to wrap it in insulation to keep it as warm as possible. If there is water in your pipe and it freezes it could burst, which would cost a lot of money to get fixed.
Cleaning Your Gutters
When it comes to your gutters you have a couple of options. The best one is cleaning out all the leaves and other debris. The second option is leaving everything to pile up until it all goes wrong. If water can’t get away it will sit in your gutters until the weather gets cold. It will then freeze and they’ll begin to crack, plus if they’re heavy enough they could crash down causing a lot of damage.
Start Collecting Water
This is another trick that involves your gutters, but this time you’ll be collecting water to use in your garden. It’s so important because we’re reaching a point where we can’t afford to waste water. All you need to do is stick a rain barrel at one end of your garden shed. Attach guttering to the shed and let the downspout run into the barrel. You should never have to use fresh water again.
Keep Water Out Of A Tank
When water sits inside a tank all day you’ll waste a huge amount of energy because it needs to be kept warm. What do you think would happen if you completely disregarded the tank? Not only would you end up with lots of extra space, but you would save money too. Tankless water heaters are the future and you should have one at home. They work by heating the water within seconds of turning on faucets.
