Are We Thriving…. Or Just Existing?

By Frank J Granett R.ph, Special for   USDR

The health & wellness of Americans is in jeopardy.  A report by the National Research Council and the Institute of Medicine shows the US is in dead last among 17 countries including Australia, Canada, Japan and Western Europe.  Experts in the US health industry attributed the dismal health rank due to the poor and underinsured.  However, the report concluded that the alarming US health rank also involves poor health in people of  affluence.

There are no socioeconomic boundaries.  From infancy to adolescence, young adulthood and old age, people in America die far more than the other studied countries.  These deaths are related to drug addiction, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, pulmonary disease, and obesity.  Alarmingly, the study concluded that Americans consume more calories per capita and abuse prescription, as well as illicit drugs than the other  countries.

America’s youth consumes three times the psychiatric and stimulant medications than the world’s children combined as discussed in The American Epidemic: Solutions for Over-medicating Our Youth.  We lead the world in suicide massacres… Our food chain is toxified with GMO, pesticides, preservatives, food coloring additives and cancer causing chemicals…  Even the Subway franchise recently was publicized for using azodicarbonamide, a plastics foaming agent used in yoga mats for their bread production in the US.  This chemical is also very effective as a bleaching agent to produce more bread in a shorter period of  time.

However, there is an upside to this report.  Americans are passionate, giving people, and we help others in need… when we have the right information.  For many decades, Americans were fed the wrong information involving our health & wellness.  The U.S. is home to the best doctors, healthcare practitioners, teachers and business leaders  worldwide.

Our ongoing health and wellness monthly series entitled The Thrive Protocol will provide vital information, helping you and your family become proactive in the development of positive interventions, increasing physical as well as mental health to prevent disease. The Thrive Protocol health and wellness series is sponsored by The Price of Business show on Bloomberg  radio.

So how do we digest this bad report card of America’s health & wellness, and help people understand the direction needed to move our country back into the top tier of health in the world?  For example, how can we help reduce the incidence of heart disease, the number one killer in America?  Excessive cravings of sugar, caffeine and fats combined with a lack of exercise increases the risk of heart disease, which is the leading cause of death in the United States.  The Thrive Protocol nutritional supplementation helps the mind and body stop cravings for these deadly food sources as well as overall appetite suppression, while significantly enhancing energy, with natural plant based nutritional supplementation.  For more information on how to start The Thrive Protocol nutritional supplementation 5 day or 30 day trial visit www.CAOOY.org and click the “Ask the pharmacist” tab or email  FrankGranett@CAOOY.org

As Director of Pharmacy Operations at an adult psychiatric hospital with over 28 years of consultative clinical experience, I believe the U.S. public health system requires re-evaluation involving the assessment and treatment of chronic diseases, including mental illness.  Comprehensive assessments ruling out underlying nutritional, environmental, and physiological risk factors prior to premature drug therapy should be mandated for all  conditions.

Look for next month’s broadcast of The Thrive Protocol as we discuss how to determine the underlying causes of  ADHD.
