BLIZZARD WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT FOR THE COASTAL AREAS OF NEW
JERSEY NORTHWARD THROUGH MAINE... EXCLUDING NANTUCKET  ISLAND.

WINTER STORM WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT FROM NEW JERSEY NORTHWARD TO
MAINE. WINTER STORM WARNINGS ARE ALSO IN EFFECT FOR A SMALL AREA
OF THE APPALACHIANS IN WEST  VIRGINIA.

COASTAL FLOOD WARNINGS AND ADVISORIES ARE IN EFFECT FROM DELAWARE
TO THE COAST OF  MAINE.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES ARE IN EFFECT FOR MUCH OF THE
MID-ATLANTIC STATES AND CENTRAL APPALACHIANS...AS WELL AS IN THE
NORTHEAST ALONG THE WESTERN AND SOUTHERN PERIPHERY OF THE WINTER
STORM WARNINGS. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES ARE ALSO IN EFFECT FOR

AT 300 AM EST...A SURFACE LOW PRESSURE CENTER WITH AN ESTIMATED
PRESSURE OF 980 MB...28.94 INCHES...WAS CENTERED APPROXIMATELY 160
MILES SOUTHEAST OF NANTUCKET...MASSACHUSETTS AND MOVING NORTHWARD.
A COLD FRONT EXTENDED SOUTH FROM THE SURFACE LOW THROUGH THE
CARIBBEAN AND ACROSS THE YUCATAN IN MEXICO. A WARM FRONT ALSO
EXTENDED NORTHEAST FROM THE LOW INTO ATLANTIC OCEAN. NATIONAL
WEATHER SERVICE RADAR AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS INDICATED THAT
WIDESPREAD LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW...WITH OCCASIONAL HEAVY
SNOW...WAS SPREADING ACROSS AREAS FROM NEW JERSEY NORTHEASTWARD TO
SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND MAINE. GUSTY WINDS CONTINUED TO
INCREASE ACROSS THE NORTHEAST. SUSTAINED WINDS OF 15 TO 25
MPH...WITH HIGHER GUSTS WERE REPORTED FROM MUCH OF NEW JERSEY
NORTHEASTWARD TO NEAR BOSTON. SUSTAINED WINDS OF 40 TO 50
MPH...WITH GUSTS OF 50 TO 60 MPH...WERE REPORTED AT MARTHAS
VINEYARD AND NANTUCKET. FARTHER WEST...SCATTERED AREAS OF LIGHT TO
OCCASIONALLY MODERATE SNOW WERE REPORTED ACROSS FROM WESTERN NEW
YORK STATE SOUTHWARD TO THE CENTRAL MID-ATLANTIC  STATES.

THE SURFACE LOW OFF THE NEW ENGLAND COAST IS FORECAST TO INTENSIFY
VERY RAPIDLY AS IT CONTINUES TO MOVE NORTHEASTWARD ALONG THE NEW
ENGLAND COASTLINE ON TUESDAY AND INTO NOVA SCOTIA BY WEDNESDAY.
WINDS AND SNOW ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE IN INTENSITY INTO TUESDAY
MORNING OVER SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND AND THE NORTHERN MID-ATLANTIC
REGION. BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO AFFECT MAJOR
POPULATION AREAS FROM EASTERN NEW JERSEY NORTHWARD THROUGH THE
BOSTON AREA AND ACROSS EASTERN MAINE. IN THESE AREAS...VERY HEAVY
SNOWFALL RATES WILL COMBINE WITH SUSTAINED WINDS OF 30 TO 40
MPH...WITH GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 50 MPH...WILL CREATE
LIFE-THREATENING WHITEOUT CONDITIONS. IN AREAS CLOSE TO THE
IMMEDIATE COASTLINE...HURRICANE FORCE WIND GUSTS TO NEAR 75 MPH
WILL BE POSSIBLE. MANY ROADS MAY BECOME IMPASSABLE AND TRAVEL WILL
BE IMPOSSIBLE IN MANY AREAS. HIGH WINDS MAY DOWN TREES AND POWER
LINES...LEADING TO POWER OUTAGES. COASTAL FLOODING AND SEVERE
BEACH EROSION ARE ALSO EXPECTED. TIDAL INCREASES MAY CAUSE
FLOODING AND DAMAGE TO VULNERABLE ROADS AND STRUCTURES. SNOW AND
STRONG WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO PERSIST THROUGH THE DAY ON TUESDAY
BEFORE SLOWLY TAPERING OFF FROM SOUTH TO NORTH TUESDAY NIGHT INTO
WEDNESDAY MORNING. HEAVY SNOWFALL TOTALS OF 1 TO 2 FEET CAN BE
EXPECTED FROM NEAR NEW YORK CITY...INCLUDING LONG ISLAND...AND
INTO CONNECTICUT...RHODE ISLAND..MASSACHUSETTS...INTO MUCH OF NEW
HAMPSHIRE...AND SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL  MAINE.
