Media reports say investigators probing Tuesday’s Germanwings plane crash in the French Alps believe that one of the pilots was shut out of the cockpit when the plane went down, killing all 150 people on board.
Officials close to the investigation told news agencies that a voice recording of the flight’s last few moments in the air, taken from the so-called “black box” found in the wreckage on Wednesday, indicates one of the pilots had left the cockpit and was trying to get back in when the plane crashed.
It is not clear which of the two pilots left the cockpit.
A source described the recording to The New York Times. He said the pilot “is knocking lightly on the door [of the cockpit] and there is no answer. And then he hits the door stronger and no answer. There is never an answer.”
The investigator said the pilot could be heard trying to break the cockpit door down. The recording left open questions… (read more)
