The Serious Leadership Problem in Congress

By Keith D. Rodebush, Contributor to US Daily Review.

The United States of America is and has been on track to fundamentally lose the constitutional republic that the Founders gave us to protect, defend and pass on to future generations. This tragedy is not happening because of want of the tools to preserve and defend her; we have all we need. It is happening because so many of the electorate are not savvy enough or brave enough to use the tools we have been given. Granted, this is in large part because of the relentless propaganda put out by politicians and party officials to confuse the People. In recent years the Republicans would have you believe that only they can restore America to her former greatness. Yet, behind the scenes they continue to support the very structure of big government that they claim to want to help us tear down. Can you trust the GOP leadership? Any thinking American would answer ‘No’ to that question yet many feel helpless to do anything. The answer my friends is quite simple as most exquisite plans are. To truly change the course of a party gone astray, the People must ‘cut off the head of the snake’, quickly and decisively.

Having determined that the party leadership must go, one may think of several ways to accomplish this of which two are generally accepted as the most practical or likely. One, to elect a new leader of the party (typically, a presidential candidate) who will by force of will change the party focus, and may even insist on persons who agree wholly with him/her to be placed into the party power positions. Second, to convince our legislators to abandon current leadership and elect new leaders to their respective bodies. The second was tried without success after the 2010 elections. We have seen the result of that failure.

Today, I propose a third way. We the People must ‘cut off the head of the snake’. In all cases where citizens attempt to gain, preserve or restore their freedoms sacrifices must be made. In most cases, it is the people themselves who sacrifice. Whether it be time, money or talent; the People sacrifice to protect themselves and their loved ones. In extreme cases they risk their lives and treasure. However, in some cases it is the source of our oppression that must be sacrificed. While in many ways they may seem to be compatriots or faithful servants; their actions in certain critical moments have put the People at risk. Therefore, they must be replaced. I propose that Republican voters MUST replace John Boehner and Mitch McConnell. Further, I propose that this should happen, even if a Democrat has to be elected in their place.

I know, this is heresy, but hear me out. Never in my lifetime have the stakes been so high as now. We are literally on the edge of slipping into complete Socialism, which is simply a pre-cursor to communism. Also, by happy coincidence, rare is the time that the Republicans are in a position to be able to afford to sacrifice one seat in each house. I would argue that this situation lends itself to this remedy for our nation. Our Founders never intended for us to lay our Liberty on the altar of party affiliation. As things stand at this moment in time we simply have only two choices, Democrat or Republican. Therefore, the Republican Party is currently our only hope to restore our constitutional republic. These two leaders have proven themselves wholly inadequate to the task. Their failed leadership has allowed the nation to be waiting with bated breath at the outcome of the ObamaCare case in the Supreme Court, likely hanging on the vote of one unpredictable jurist. Our representatives have proven cowardly in replacing them their selves. Our presidential nominee is not inclined by temperament or philosophy to aggressively demand replacing them.

Therefore, I propose to you good Patriots of America, it is up to us to replace this leadership. We should organize, raise money and use all communication and social networking possible to convince our friends in District 8 of Ohio and the State of Kentucky to vote out John Boehner and Mitch McConnell at all costs; yes, even at the cost of a Democrat getting that seat. It is a revised version of Rush Limbaugh’s ‘Operation Chaos’ which was implemented by the famous talk show host in the 2008 election. We will come back with a new true Republican in the next cycle. In the mean time we clear the decks for our legislators to pick new leadership. The message sent will be dramatic! We the People DEMAND that you uphold our Constitution and tear down this monster of central planning or else…YOUR head will be next on the electoral chopping block.

Profoundly penetrated with this idea, I shall carry it with me to my grave, as a strong incitement to unceasing vows that Heaven may continue to you the choicest tokens of its beneficence; that your union and brotherly affection may be perpetual; that the free constitution, which is the work of your hands, may be sacredly maintained; that its administration in every department may be stamped with wisdom and virtue; than, in fine, the happiness of the people of these States, under the auspices of liberty, may be made complete, by so careful a preservation and so prudent a use of this blessing, as will acquire to them the glory of recommending it to the applause, the affection, and adoption of every nation, which is yet a stranger to it. George Washington’s Farewell Address (emphasis mine)
