The following is being released by the American Beverage Association:

Nearly two-thirds of Americans oppose additional taxes on soft drinks and about 75 percent oppose limiting the types or amounts of food and drinks people can buy, according to a number of recent independent public polls.

For more information on this and other issues related to the non-alcoholic beverage industry, follow ABA on Twitter @AmeriBevand Facebook.

People don’t support taxes and bans on common grocery items, like soft drinks. That’s why the public policy debate has moved on from taxes and bans and onto real solutions. If we want to get serious about obesity, it starts with education – not laws and regulation. Politicians should focus on what matters most – education, jobs and the economy – and leave the grocery shopping to us.

The American Beverage Association is the trade association representing the broad spectrum of companies that manufacture and distribute non-alcoholic beverages in the United States.  Visit the association’s Web site (www.ameribev.org) or call the ABA communications team (202-463-6770).
