The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) announced today its strong endorsement for this year’s 2/3-For-Taxes Constitutional Amendment Initiative  I-1366.

“Gun owners are no stranger to getting targeted by anti-gun politicians and unelected bureaucrats in an attempt to place financial penalties and barriers on a constitutionally protected individual right,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “Citizens shouldn’t have to pay what amounts to poll taxes in order to exercise their right to keep and bear  arms.”

Many states have adopted taxes and fees that single out gun ownership, giving sticker shock to anyone who simply wants to purchase a gun or apply for a  permit.

“If this measure passes,” Gottlieb observed, “it will be more difficult for the state to tax firearms and ammunition out of  existence.

“With the passage of Initiative 594 in Washington state last year,” he noted, “we now have the Department of Licensing compiling a complete list of pistol purchases and transfers that they can pass on to their cohorts at the Department of Revenue. And as we all know, the only reason to have a universal registry of gun owners is to tax their firearms or take them  away.

“This is Tim Eyman’s best initiative so far,” Gottlieb said. “Once voters approve a ‘2/3-For-Taxes’ Constitutional Amendment, gun owners in Washington will have an added layer of common-sense protection against tax-happy gun-grabbers. Seventeen states already have a super majority vote requirement for higher taxes in their state constitutions so CCRKBA is proud to give its full endorsement to Initiative  1366.”
