Congressman Kevin Brady (R-TX), released the following statement on the Planned Parenthood video describing the sale of fetal body parts.
“Planned Parenthood doesn’t deserve Federal funding; they are responsible for more than 30,000 abortions each year preventing thousands of families who choose adoption, like mine, from raising healthy and happy babies. Recent revelations give Congress all the more reason to defund Planned Parenthood and any companies that buy and sell the body parts and organs of unborn children. That’s why I and 125 of my colleagues have sent a letter to the Energy & Commerce and Judiciary Committees asking them to investigate the organization.”
Background: In a recently released video a top Planned Parenthood executive describes huddling with tissue brokers to determine what organs they would like to “procure” and altering procedures to make sure she is able to obtain the necessary body parts.
Also in the video, the executive discusses payments of $30-$100 for fetal body parts. She further indicates that they want to avoid being perceived as selling tissue, so they want to come up with a rate that “looks like it is a reasonable number for the effort that is allotted on their part.”
Mr. Brady is also a cosponsor of H.R. 217, the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act. This bill prohibits the Department of Health and Human Service (HHS) from providing federal family planning assistance to an entity unless the entity certifies that the entity will not perform, and will not provide funds to any other entity that performs, an abortion.
