Ten Cities Known for Premature Aging

Posted on 18 July 2012 by kprice

By US Daily Review Staff.

The Patient’s Guide, the leading online destination in beauty and skin care, released the top U.S. cities where the average population appears “older than they really are.” To determine these rankings, The Patient’s Guide conducted a study that pulled data from internal analytics (http://www.agespots.net), Google’s Regional Interest, as well as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Houston is one of the Ten Cities

“Up to 90 percent of the visible skin changes commonly attributed to aging are caused by the sun,” says Dr. Eric Bernstein, distinguished practitioner and innovator in the field of dermatology and laser surgery. “Depending on where you live, you may need to adjust your skin care regimen’s level of daily sunscreen and increase treatments such as non-ablative laser skin rejuvenation or citric acid peels to treat the five signs of skin aging.”

People who live or work near to the equator, at higher altitudes, and in locations with many dry, sunny days have a higher risk of UV exposure, skin aging and even cancer. Listed below are the top ten U.S. cities whose residents struggle with physical signs of premature aging including sun spots and wrinkles.

(View infographic: http://www.agespots.net/oldest-cities/)

  1. Los Angeles, CA
  2. Miami, FL
  3. St. Petersburg, FL
  4. Phoenix, AZ
  5. Houston, TX
  6. San Francisco, CA
  7. Orlando, FL
  8. New Orleans, LA
  9. Charleston, SC
  10. Jersey City, NJ

Ironically, the leading cities in the study happen to be highly populated, metropolitan areas that are known for their emphasis on beauty and fashion. Jasson Gilmore, The Patient’s Guide’s CEO and co-founder said, “It comes as no surprise that most of the cities in the top ten for aging skin are in the southern portion of the US. The residents of these cities are fortunate to bask in the sun’s rays most days of the year; however this comes at a high price. Risk of skin cancer and premature aging run high in these areas. This study should remind everyone to wear their sunscreen, especially during the summer when we are outdoors more.” With proper protection from UV radiation, many forms of skin cancer and most premature aging of the skin can be avoided.

Houston Hobby to Become International Airport

Posted on 30 May 2012 by kprice

By US Daily Review Staff.

In an overwhelming vote of 16-1, Houston Mayor Annise Parker and Houston City Council today approved Southwest Airlines’ plans for international service at Hobby Airport (HOU). The expansion will mean flights to Latin America from Hobby by 2015, if the federal government approves a new customs facility necessary to screen international passengers.

“This is a big win for Houston and the traveling public,” said Mayor Parker. “Competition will lead to jobs, lower fares and a positive economic impact for the city. My goal is a strong international presence at Hobby and a continued strong international presence at Bush Airport. We will also continue our commitment to ensuring there is adequate customs and immigration staffing at Bush and at Hobby when international service begins there in 2015.”

Construction is planned for the spring of 2013. In the interim, the City will work closely with SWA and the Federal Aviation Administration to obtain the necessary federal approvals as well as a commitment for an adequate number of customs and border patrol agents at both of our airports.

Last week, Mayor Parker unveiled the proposed agreement under which Southwest Airlines will cover all costs related to the $100 million expansion. The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) requires Southwest Airlines to design and build the five new gates and customs facility to the City’s specifications.  When finished, the City will own the improvements debt free.

In return for its investment, Southwest Airlines will have preferential scheduling rights and pay no rent for its use of four of the five new international gates, and will also pay no rent for its use of the customs facility. The fifth additional gate and the customs facility will be available for use by all other airlines at Hobby, but unlike Southwest Airlines, the other airlines will pay rent.

An independent study commissioned by the Houston Airport System indicates that increased competition will lower fares that entice additional passengers to travel through Hobby.  Many of these additional travelers will be visitors to Houston and this will drive job growth in Houston’s tourism, hotel, retail and restaurant sectors.  The overall impact is job creation and an annual net positive economic impact for the greater Houston metropolitan area.

The addition of international service at Hobby will mean approximately 20 more departures daily, which is still far below the historical record-setting activity levels of 1997. Southwest Airlines intends to utilize new 737 aircraft that are more efficient and quieter than older models, thus eliminating impact on the surrounding neighborhood.

The Houston Airport System (HAS) served more than 48 million passengers in 2010, Houston’s three airports, George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), William P. Hobby (HOU) and Ellington Airport (EFD) contribute more than $27.5 billion to the regional economy. For more information, visit www.fly2houston.com.

Saddle Up Texas Straw Poll Leaves its Mark

Posted on 15 January 2012 by kprice

By US Daily Review Staff.

It has long been odd in the eyes of Texans that a state of such size and influence has little say about who will be the GOP nominee for President of the United States.  The Saddle Up Texas Straw Poll, which took place in Houston, Texas this weekend, is a serious effort to increase the state’s reach.

Herman Cain had no problem making this crowd go wild.

For a first attempt, the poll was impressive on several fronts, including the quality of the speakers and representation in the thousands who participated from all over the state.  The keynote address was by former presidential candidate Herman Cain who received several standing ovations.  The event received coverage from several media outlets including ABC News and Fox.

Kevin Price, Publisher and Editor in Chief of US Daily Review, and host of the Price of Business Radio show, served as an emcee on Saturday.

The following is a breakdown of how people voted among the GOP candidates for the White House and US Senate (texting only). To see the complete list that includes other offices, visit here:

TOTAL VOTES CAST (Presidential Race) TEXTED  3321

SADDLE UP TEXAS STRAW POLL – FEDERAL CANDIDATES
CIRCLE ONE CHOICE FOR PRESIDENT
Newt Gingrich 11.9%
Rick Perry 13.3%
Ron Paul 54.4%
Mitt Romney 4.2%
Jon Huntsman 0.5%
Rick Santorum 15.6%
Charles “Buddy” Roemer 0.0%
CIRCLE ONE CHOICE FOR SENATE
Glenn Addison 12.0%
Tom Leppert 9.1%
David Dewhurst 7.1%
Curt Cleaver 0.0%
Ted Cruz 49.1%
Charles Holcomb 0.3%
Ben Gambini 0.0%
Lela Pittenger 9.1%
“Doc Joe” Agris 0.3%
Craig James 12.9%

The following is the breakdown for those who attended:

Newt Gingrich 23.8%
Rick Perry 19.4%
Ron Paul 27.9%
Mitt Romney 6.6%
Jon Huntsman 1.1%
Rick Santorum 21.2%
Charles “Buddy” Roemer 0.0%
CIRCLE ONE CHOICE FOR SENATE
Glenn Addison 19.9%
Tom Leppert 3.0%
David Dewhurst 10.3%
Curt Cleaver 0.0%
Ted Cruz 47.8%
Charles Holcomb 0.7%
Ben Gambini 0.0%
Lela Pittenger 7.2%
“Doc Joe” Agris 1.2%
Craig James 9.9%

Not surprisingly, Ron Paul won this poll, since his organization is the master of the straw poll process.  Meanwhile, Ted Cruz received almost half of all the votes among 10 candidates, soundly defeating other serious candidates including former ESPN personality Craig James and former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert (who also spoke at the event with Cruz). Conspicuously absent was the Lt. Governor, David Dewhurst who came a distant 4th in the poll.

The event was a very positive effort to make the state’s voice more clearly heard when it comes to national politics.
