Olympic trampoline is a fairly new sport, but that doesn’t mean it should be unfamiliar. While competitive trampoline has only been in the games since 2000, the sport itself has a long history, going back to the first world championship competitions in London in 1964. Today’s competitive trampoline event is structured similarly to gymnastic and skating events, with a range of qualified moves and competitors who perform a practiced routine to be scored on form, execution, and the complexity of the attempt. The 2016 Olympic Games saw the expansion of the sport’s fan base, too, as 2012’s medal winners came out to defend their title and a new wave of competitors came to attempt to earn their own medals in the sport.
