The Top 10 Best Restaurants in America are as distinct as they are deserving, with each winning restaurant creating one-of-a-kind dining adventures across an array of cuisines and service styles. From Thomas Keller’s legendary French Laundry to relative newcomer goosefoot, both of which specialize in mind-blowing multi-course meals, to the intimate settings of the counter at o ya and the dining room at St. Francis Winery & Vineyards which seat under 20 diners at a time, the Top 10 restaurants are a reflection of the new definition of fine dining.

Standing out in a highly competitive field of exceptional chefs and restaurateurs, the complete list of honorees are scattered among 30 states and Washington, D.C., and include Del Posto in New York City, Noisette in Portland, Oregon, and Rasika in Washington, D.C.  California and New York boast the greatest number of winning restaurants with 14 and 13, respectively, followed by Illinois with seven. New Jersey and Pennsylvania, each boast five winning restaurants. Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia claim four winners apiece, while Washington, D.C., and Oregon have three. Colorado, Hawaii, Louisiana, Massachusetts, and Nevada have two. Alabama, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Washington, and Wisconsin also have winning eateries. While American fare restaurants have the greatest number of winners, followed by those serving French food, an eclectic array of cuisines are represented, including English, Indian, Korean, Spanish, and Thai.

“These winning restaurants are conducted like great orchestras,” said Caroline Potter, OpenTable Chief Dining Officer. “All the players, from chefs and managers to wait staff and sommeliers, have artfully mastered their parts, and every instrument of hospitality, whether it be deft service or imaginative menus, is in harmony with one another to create a symphonic dining experience.”

The Diners’ Choice Awards for the Top 100 Best Restaurants in America are generated from more than 5 million restaurant reviews collected from verified OpenTable diners between November 14, 2012, and November 15, 2013. All restaurants with a minimum number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration. Qualifying restaurants were then sorted according to a score calculated from each restaurant’s average rating in the “overall” category along with that restaurant’s rating relative to others in the same metropolitan area and the average number of restaurants reviewed by diners who reviewed that restaurant.

Based on this methodology, the following restaurants, listed in alphabetical order, comprise the Top 100 Best Restaurants in America according to OpenTable diners. The complete list may also be viewed at http://www.opentable.com/best-restaurants-in-america.
