A Brief Look at Some of the Popular Free Streaming Services

Premium streaming services came from nowhere, exploded everywhere, and are now struggling to keep afloat. One of the biggest factors for this is the rise of ad supported streaming services, which is making it possible for people to have all the entertainment they want without the prohibitive costs. Here are a few of the major players in the ad supported streaming space.

Pluto TV

If you want to watch the latest movies and shows without having to pay a cent, try Pluto TV. You can watch more than 250 live channels, including movies from AMC Networks and CNET. This service also has a Latino service. Some of the live channels on Pluto include comedy, music, sports, and telenovelas. Pluto is also the company that powers Vizio’s WatchFree streaming service. This service provides over 100 free, ad-supported channels to its SmartCast TVs. The service is also available on many TiVo devices and Android and iOS mobile devices.

Aside from its live streams, the service has on-demand options. Many of the movies and TV shows available on Pluto TV are popular movies and TV shows. There is a growing library of content, with new titles added regularly. For those who love watching movies, Pluto TV also has a James Bond section that includes films from Sean Connery’s and George Lazenby’s era, as well as Roger Moore’s and Timothy Dalton’s films. The selection of titles is constantly changing, so it’s always best to check the availability of the titles before you watch them.

Pluto is a great fix for those who are tired of the high cost of cable, but want cable style TV channels.  Pluto is a lot like old style cable TV.  In addition, it keeps commercials to a reasonable number, unlike some of the other players in the free streaming space.

If you’re looking for an ad supported streaming service that offers original content, Crackle is the right choice for you. The platform features 22 original television series and 17 films, including the recent ‘Oath’ executive produced by Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson. Original series also include Martin Freeman’s start-up and The Oath, a thriller starring Sean Bean and Bruce Willis. Movies available to stream on Crackle range from the 1940s to the present.

There are many ways to browse the content on Crackle. You can use the search bar to find specific movies and TV shows. You can also browse through various categories like Movies, TV, Sci-Fi and Fantasy, Crime Time, and New on Crackle. Once you find a show you like, you can easily set it to watch later. The interface of Crackle is very similar to that of Netflix. Creating a watch list is a breeze.

Comparing the competition

There are some major differences between Netflix and Tubi, and the biggest one is that Tubi is completely free (ad supported) while Netflix requires a paid subscription. Tubi also features a smaller library than Netflix but is still worth trying as a supplemental app. The free service launched in 2014 and currently boasts a library of over 20,000 movies and TV shows. You can watch movies, TV shows, and original content, including award-winning series and movies. It also offers live sports channels, news networks, and local news channels.

While Crackle does have a huge library of movies and TV shows, there are many more free options on Tubi. In addition to thousands of titles, the service has more exclusive categories, including Not On Netflix and Highly Rated On Rotten Tomatoes. There are also more than 40 genres available, so you can find something that you’ll love. Although there are commercials, the numbers on them are reasonable.

There has been a significant jump in the quality of free subscription services in recent years.  This is why it has become increasingly difficult for premium ones to make a profit. Because of the continued improved quality of free streaming sites, increasingly people will abandon the premium ones and likely not miss them at all.
