Within a few months of its onset, COVID-19 had created vast disruption within the world’s court system. By the first month, the courts were facing considerable unforeseen challenges with most courts inadequately prepared to address the new challenges. However, the courts have continued to soldier through the problems to maintain the continuity and availability of their services.

Social institutions like courts typically encounter challenges related to resources, staff, or budgets. Therefore, the pandemic is a threat more similar to natural disasters and matters like global warming. Justice is a backbone to any society; the courts have picked up what they can and have changed to adapt to the new normal.

Court Closure

The first change in the courts due to the pandemic, like most other social and public institutions, was immediate closure. Following the closure, courts began devising new alternatives to the provision of services. Italy’s courts shut down with the supreme court’s suspension of all their activities after their government’s issuance of a lockdown directive.

Courts then began phased re-opening. For instance, in the UK, the number of courts allowed to stay open to the public has reduced. Courts proceeded with the most urgent cases, such as custody hearings. In France, the highest court suspended the nonessential proceedings then continued hearing the urgent criminal matters such as extraditions.

Emergency Measures

Some jurisdictions excused persons above 60 years from any jury duty; the exclusion extended to litigants deemed vulnerable to COVID 19 from court proceedings. Much as the courts must balance its workers’ safety and public safety against the citizens’ rights, every slowdown and restriction came with severe implications for affected parties.

The pandemic was untimely and unforgiving even to people with tenant eviction cases or protective orders. The courts had to devise new ways to continue services for such cases.

Virtual Processes

With the progression of the pandemic, courts have begun to embrace the new normal by utilizing technology. Slowly, courts have begun to reinstate court proceedings and process virtually. The United States virtually handled a case for the first time in its history. Judges, legal teams, and court personnel have begun to meet through video and audio conferences. Therefore, different court systems have continued to confer and convene as necessary, albeit in other formats.

State Supreme Courts and lower Federal Courts moved to handle their cases remotely. For instance, the U.S. District of Columbia Court suspended in-person oral arguments and proceeded via teleconference. Supreme Courts in Michigan and Texas now utilize video conferencing platforms.

New Normal for Litigators

Many litigators moved to work from home. Attorneys have conducted their operations virtually, although some have returned to their offices gradually. Firms like Wilt & Thompson have conducted conciliations, mediations, and hearings through video conferences. The advantage is that cases, especially sensitive cases like personal injury ones, are not postponed.

In countries like Australia, telephone mediations have also been taking place. Telephonic mediation, being an emergency alternative, has not lacked flaws. The major challenge with this to litigators is that they miss out on the body language cues. Telephonic mediation also makes it harder for the mediator to build a rapport effectively. Worse still, the process gets diluted by breaks taken from the call to make private discussions.

Online Dispute Resolution

Courts developed ODR as an alternative to Alternative Dispute Resolution. The processes are quite similar: the two parties and a mediator negotiate through the facts to meet an agreement. The only difference with ODR is that the process is virtual; the mediator and disputing parties agree on a virtual meeting platform. Everything, including the scheduling of dates and updates, happens online.

The Court System in a Pandemic

Covid-19 has been a catastrophic pandemic that came with a bang. Legal services got momentarily paralyzed, with many citizens left clueless on the future of their cases. With the courts being the core of the justice system, they have gradually forced their way into adapting to the pandemic by adopting virtual courts and ODR. Vulnerable litigants have both had to take the bench in many states and consider working from home, adopting various technologies into their practice in the process.

On a recent Price of Business show, Host Kevin Price visited with former Congressman Steve Stockman (R-TX).

Stockman received a ten year prison sentence and served 3 years before being freed. It was a case in which the feds tried to sell a case to grand juries and they rejected it numerous times before they got one. The government then spent tens of millions of dollars to put him in jail. In this interview he talks his conviction, his commutation, and why it is imperative that he receive a pardon.

According to the site that was created to defend him:

“Steve Stockman has twice been elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from the state of Texas – first in 1994 when he unseated 42-year incumbent Democrat Jack Brooks; second in 2012. Both times, Steve went to Congress with vision of limited government, strong support for American families, and a robust national defense.

“Not one to shy away from controversial issues, Steve was a vocal opponent of agendas of the Clinton and Obama administrations. Making the Drudge Report more often than any House colleague, here are a few of his bold actions and stances from 2013-2014:

“Second Amendment, threatening possible impeachment if authority overstepped

“Immigration & border control – opposed amnesty for illegal aliens and called for greater border control

“First to expose Obama’s ransom payment for Bowe Bergdahl

“Exposing Clinton’s bypass of Iran sanctions w Interpipe (owned by Victor Penchuk, largest Clinton Foundation donor)

“Filed resolution for arrest of IRS’s Lois Lerner for contempt of Congress

In the wake of recent FDA approval of a vaccine and with the first batches of COVID-19 vaccines ready to be deployed, one of the nation’s most prioritized groups – nursing homes and front-line healthcare workers – won’t likely receive them as quickly as desired.

High-risk populations such as the elderly and those tasked with caring for them are being promised priority access to the vaccine, thanks to guarantees from the federal government. In addition, the government is collaborating with popular national pharmacies such as Walgreens and CVS in order to more rapidly distribute these vaccines to those in need.

Yet even with a framework for distribution in place, the logistical challenges awaiting the process remain daunting.

First is the sheer size of the at-risk population. Roughly 25 million Americans either work in the healthcare sector or are full-time residents of nursing homes. Of this group, roughly 3 million are long-term care facility residents.

Next is the sheer lack of vaccines currently available for distribution. The New York Times reported that only around 3 million doses of the vaccine are ready to ship in the first batch. This is despite the US ordering 100 million doses of the vaccine in July. Vaccine manufacturer Pfizer has promised that up to 25 million doses will be ready and delivered by the end of the year.

Additionally, there is no guarantee of a uniform distribution model. States are being left in charge of who receives the vaccinations first. While every state has signed up to receive deliveries of vaccines in the first wave of 3 million doses – and virtually all have promised nursing home residents and/or healthcare workers priority access to them – the logistical hurdles of deploying them across 50 different states is worrying to some advocacy groups.

New York, for instance, is ensuring its first batch of doses will be given to nursing home patients and employees who work inside them. Contrast this with Utah, which will send its doses to a variety of large hospitals in the state first (nursing home staff and patients will only receive vaccinations after).

Given that approximately 8% of all COVID cases and 40% of COVID-related deaths in the United States are directly or indirectly linked to nursing home facilities, the range in plans for deploying the first doses of Pfizer’s vaccine is worrisome to many.

Another concern in the near future is the critical lack of capacity in hospitals and healthcare-related facilities. With a shortage of nurses, select equipment and ICU beds in many states, even with a mass vaccine deployment imminent, those in need of the vaccines the most (nurses and the elderly) may not receive them in time to avoid infection. This can create additional strain on the healthcare sector due to a shortage of nurses and beds. Thankfully, nurse shortages are being addressed by Online ABSN Programs, which allow people to get started in nursing sooner than before.

The Centers for Disease Control is expected to issue a national recommendation that long-term care facility staff and residents be vaccinated first, but states will still ultimately have the say in how their vaccines are deployed initially.

Ultimately, advocates of the vaccine believe that efficient and widespread deployment of a coronavirus vaccine will be in full swing by early next year. Nevertheless, the challenges faced by the elderly and those who care for them right now is still a major hurdle in tackling some of the biggest hot-spots of transmission.

Insulin is one of those drugs that must be carefully monitored when administering to a patient, otherwise, the results could be life-threatening. Most hospitals across the United States take advantage of automated dispensing cabinets, which are used to aid in dispensing medication to patients. This article will address options that are available when the decision is made to use automated dispensing cabinets to administer insulin. Knowing these options will facilitate the decision-making process when that time comes for a patient to use one of those options.

Looking at Automated Dispensing Cabinets in Hospitals

It is difficult to go into a hospital in today’s settings without seeing dispensing cabinets somewhere near a nurse’s station. After a while, medication dispensing machines in hospitals will be the norm rather than the exception, as more healthcare professionals learn to rely upon their accuracy. It will become typical to know exactly what medication is inside the cabinet, who has access to the medicines, and which patient gets what specific medication. The great benefit of this is that there will be significant cost-savings generated by spending less money on pharmacy-delivery fees. Another benefit is that the hospital will be able to avoid the theft or loss of controlled medications.

Options When Managing Insulin Through Automated Dispensing Cabinets

Insulin is costly and one of the medications that will need to be managed for dispensing to patients, and the Institute for Safe Medication Practices recommends that an insulin vial should be restricted per patient. There are three options for controlling insulin in this manner, with the first being having the first dose delivered by the pharmacy. The pharmacy will dispense the vial that is prescribed for the patient and stocks the supply in a single bin in the automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) designated for that patient. The software system that is used for controlling insulin in this manner is SinglePointe.

More Options for Managing Insulin Through the ADC

The second option for managing insulin is by having the nurse control the medicine with the vials stored in the ADC as part of the floor stock item. When the nurse first issues the vial, a medication label printer will be used to print the patient’s information specifically for that vial. The value of using the ADC is the assurance of medication availability, workflow improvement, and the safety of the medication. It is important to remember and be assured that the vial will always be returned to the patient-specific bin from which it was taken.

A Third Option and Final Look at Managing Insulin Through the ADC

A third option that is available is actually using a vial for multiple patients, but careful attention must be given throughout the entire process of dispensing medications. Instead of labels being printed for the vial, a label will be printed for the syringe that is prescribed for each patient. This will save money and time for the hospital and the staff who will be glad for the easier method of controlling the insulin. It is projected that automated dispensing cabinets will be the way all hospitals handle medication dispensing, eliminating the great need to depend on outside pharmacies for the task. Automated dispensing cabinets are part of the robotic future in the healthcare sector.

INTERVIEW ON THE PRICE OF BUSINESS SHOW, MEDIA PARTNER OF THIS SITE.

Recently Kevin Price, Host of the nationally syndicated Price of Business Show, interviewed J. Reuben Appelman.

On a recent Price of Business show, Host Kevin Price visited with J. Reuben Appelman who is an author, podcast personality, and has been involved on every level of several major films that have appeared on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Price, and others.

In Part 2 they discuss the prevalence of child abduction attempts in the Detroit Metro area during the 70s, the source of that activity, and the guest and host talked about an abduction attempt they each lived through during the time. It covers much more about this disturbing period.

This is a powerful, personal and important interview.

Part one of the series.

As noted, “J. Reuben grew up just a few miles from show host Kevin Price and they both share the common story of being among the people riveted and terrified by the child murders that happened in Oakland County, Michigan. Price lived in Ferndale, Michigan and left the year before the murders happened, but heard stories from friends who lived in constant fear during the mid to late 1970s. Meanwhile, Appelman’s story hit even closer to home as a child that grew up in Southfield, Michigan.”

This is the second interview in a series.

INTERVIEW ON THE PRICE OF BUSINESS SHOW, MEDIA PARTNER OF THIS SITE.

Recently Kevin Price, Host of the nationally syndicated Price of Business Show, interviewed Rich DeMarco and Pete Medhurst.

On a recent Price of Business show, Host Kevin Price visited with the play by play announcers of the historic Army-Navy game, Rich DeMarco and Pete Medhurst.

According to a publicist’s statement “While college football’s most revered and storied rivalries will look different this year in light of COVID-19 restrictions, Saturday, December 12th will see the Army Black Knights take on the Navy Midshipmen for the 121st time at Michie Stadium on the campus of Army West Point.”

“This year’s playing of “America’s Game” marks the first time the Army-Navy Game will be played at a home site since World War II when Annapolis hosted the 1942 game and West Point the 1943 game. Only the Brigade of Midshipmen and Corps of Cadets (students from each Academy) will be in the stadium; no fans will be allowed to attend.

“The annual Army-Navy Game is normally the last regular season matchup in college football, and Navy leads the series 61-52-7, having snapped a three-game Army winning streak last year.

“Play-by-Play Broadcasters Rich DeMarco (Army) and Pete Medhurst (Navy) know the history of this rivalry and the game’s traditions and their significance better than anyone. Rich has been calling Army’s games for 17 years, and Pete has been with the Navy Radio Network for 23 years.

“New for this Year’s Game: “Army-Navy House” Sweepstakes:

“USAA, presenting sponsor of the Army-Navy Game, wanted to ensure that fans could continue to celebrate the rivalry and tradition of the game despite not being able to attend. To do so, USAA has launched the “Army-Navy House” sweepstakes.

“To participate, fans can visit ArmyNavyHouse.com, upload a photo that shows off their Army or Navy fandom, share on social media using #ArmyNavyHouse, and they will be entered into a sweepstakes to win a trip to the 2021 Army-Navy Game in New York City. Two grand prize winners (one Army fan, one Navy fan) will be selected to win.

“History of the Army-Navy Game:

“The first Army-Navy football match-up was held on November 29th, 1890. The two academies faced each other 30 times until 1927 with the only games not being played between 1894-1898, 1909, 1917, 1918, 1928, and 1929. Since 1930, the game has been played annually with the only talks of canceling the game in 1963, shortly after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. However, Jacqueline Kennedy urged the two academies to play to keep some normalcy in the turbulent times.”

We can find HONOR MagicBook 14 for sale in UK now. The HONOR is far ahead in performance for laptops of the same price. From configuration to improvement of connection with smart phones, this lightweight laptop costs as little as about 550 pounds. And many people prefer to buy it.

HONOR magicbook 14 looks a bit light and luxurious. The 14-inch screen and light blue HONOR logo are very beautiful. People regard it as one of the laptops with the best appearance at the same price.

These configurations will not compete with flagship laptop. But its configuration makes it surpass other laptops at the same price. In terms of performance, it is close to a higher level laptop.

The core of the laptop is AMD Ryzen 5 3500U. This core can handle all the daily tasks of the portable laptop. And it can open many tabs for web browsing, music player, work efficiency and office software. There is no choice in RAM or storage, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage. 8GB of memory helps improve performance.

The biggest selling point is audio effects. Four Dolby-Atmos speakers, which is the best sound effect that notebook computers at this price can get. Both high frequency and low frequency have rich and clear contents. The power key is equipped with a fingerprint reader for Windows Hello biometric security system.

For a laptop that costs 549.99 pounds in the UK, magicbook 14 is worth it.

Let’s talk about MagicLink here. This is a series of connection tools on laptops of Huawei, including Honor series laptops. They work with smart phones to transfer files (including media files such as pictures, videos and music). It can transfer these files in two directions and share clipboards between the two devices.

One of the biggest advantages is multi-screen collaboration. When the mobile phone and laptop are connected via NFC, magicbook will display the mobile phone screen. You can use the mouse and keyboard to interact with it. And you can control your smart phone through your laptop. The only problem is that this phone is not open to any Android smartphone. You need a newer HONOR or HUAWEI phone.

Let’s put MagicLink aside for the time being. This is a great function, but not everyone will use it. How does magicbook 14 compete with other laptops? I have to say, in terms of configuration, it is one of the strongest in its price range. AMD Ryzen5 4500U with 8GB RAM is worth it.

Not everyone needs every ounce of power from a laptop for high-end applications. What many people need is a laptop, which can easily cover basic needs. It can handle specific applications that make any computer a personal computer. And it has sufficient functions without becoming obsolete soon.

In short, magicbook 14 has high cost-effectiveness, complete functions and beautiful design. It is suitable for daily work, study and life.

It is rarely a good decision to attempt handling an auto accident insurance claim personally. Insurance company claims agents are trained professional negotiators who deal with claims daily and are focused on protecting the company’s bottom line. And of course, their priority is also on protecting their client as well.

Any legal action is typically filed against the negligent driver when cases are forced into court. Many cases never reach this point when an experienced auto accident attorney is representing the claim. This is because all case elements are laid out when the insurance company receives the notification of requested financial damages.

When insurance agents think they can settle the claim quickly without dealing with a lawyer, they will do. This is especially true when there is a possibility of a significant benefit payout that the injured claimant does not realize. This happens more often than many injured parties know. This is why hiring an attorney is usually the right decision in any accident injury case from the very beginning.

The Value of Comprehensive Legal Representation

One of the first concerns that injured accident victims have is simple. They often want to know how much it’s going to cost. If you’re wondering, ”How much does a personal injury lawyer charge?” you can follow this link for more information about paying on contingency.

Having an attorney shows the insurance provider that you mean business. Multiple studies have shown that claimants fare much better with legal representation. Often the increased financial compensation easily exceeds any concern about the contingency percentage attorneys receive for representing injured clients.

How Attorneys Can Improve Damage Amounts

Accident injury claims are divided into economic and non-economic payments. The first element of a claim is usually the damages that are specific amount damages. This may include:

The cost of ambulance services

Your medical bills

Rehabilitation therapy costs

The cost of replacing damaged property

Necessary additional expenses such as travel or lodging can apply also when certain medical appointments are required, which insurance companies rarely want to allow without legal counsel insistence. These damages can also include lost wages when the victim cannot work due to the accident injuries and even a rental car while a personal vehicle is being repaired.

These claims can all be calculated in definitive amounts, and an attorney can keep the insurance company honest in providing these benefits.

Negotiating Non-Economic General Damages

General damages for ongoing problems while dealing with the injuries and fallout of the accident are the portion of a claim that insurance claims agents want to avoid at all costs. Anyone who tries to negotiate their own claim will be denied at least some level of general damages, and often the insurance company will adopt a take-it-or-leave-it stance.

This is especially true when they think they can enhance any comparative negligence shared fault on the part of the claimant if the case goes to court. This is always the most contentious component of an accident injury claim, and having professional legal representation is the best method of ensuring fair financial compensation, even if the claim goes to trial.

Potential Punitive Damages

When the negligence in a case has been particularly egregious, such as the case with drunk drivers or perpetrators of road rage incidents, punitive damages may also be awarded.

Punitive damages are only awarded following a jury trial when an experienced and aggressive trial attorney can convince the jury that they are warranted. This can be especially important in truck accident cases when the shipping company or employer could also have vicarious liability exposure due to material case factors.

Injured accident victims typically only have one opportunity for economic justice whenever they have been injured. Regardless of the severity of your injury, it is always best to have legal professionals handling the case when compensation is being sought. The financial benefits outweigh any concerns regarding attorney fees.
