May 12th is National Military Spouse Appreciation Day, recognizing those who support and sacrifice for loved ones serving in uniform. Pioneer Services, a division of MidCountry Bank, teamed up with Military Spouse Magazine this year on the 2017 Military Spouse Survey to identify trends and issues of importance to military families, with the results and findings compiled in a unique easy-to-read Survey Infographic.
The online survey of approximately 250 spouses builds upon an initial survey with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) and Harris polling three years ago, and expands upon and provides contrasts against a similar 2016 survey of Military Spouse Magazine readers. Findings revealed several reasons for optimism with military families, and a more positive outlook following recent policy, budgetary and political happenings.
Specifics include:
- One in three view the current policy and political environment more favorable to their family than a year ago. While changes in political leadership could be a factor, optimism for favorable policies like military investment and spending are likely driving the trend.
- Stability is on the rise. 87% expect their spouse to be serving in the military two years from now, up 5% from last year’s result. Marriage stability is on the rise too. 64% of respondents have been married at least five years and 38% more than a decade. With the uncertainty and financial stress associated with deployments, these numbers are encouraging.
- Spending and savings are trending in positive directions for military families. 64% are spending the same or less than in the previous year, while 72% are saving more. Spending less and saving more is a winning combination.
Pioneer Services works every day to show their appreciation to military families, as they have for nearly 30 years. For additional information on the survey, contact media@pioneerservices.com. For more information on the company, visit www.PioneerServices.com.
