Score.org, mentors to America’s small businesses, has gathered statistics concerning the state of small business in the U.S. including changes in owner sentiment, growth in women-owned businesses, loan approval rates and SCORE’s impact.
Optimism on the Rise
According to data presented visually in the infographic, small business optimism has increased substantially since Q2 2013. This is reflected in the following survey results:
37% say business prospects are excellent
45% say business prospects are good
57% plan geographical expansion during the next year
More than half of respondents plan to increase marketing and social media efforts. A quarter of respondents plan to hire and will hire mostly full time employees.
Women-owned Businesses Growing at a Historic Rate
There are now 9.1 million women-owned businesses, compared to 8.6 million just last year. These enterprises generate a total of $1.4 trillion in revenue. More than 1,200 new businesses are started every day by women.
SCORE’s Impact
In 2013 alone SCORE assisted entrepreneurs in:
- Starting 38,630 new businesses
- Growing 40,175 businesses
