On Anniversary of Obamacare, FreedomWorks Sends Clear Message

By FreedomWorks, Special for US Daily Review.

On the two-year anniversary of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, 20 FreedomWorks staff and allies visited the Capitol Hill offices of Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Harry Reidto deliver a petition with over 120,000 signatures urging Congress to “End Obamacare Now.”

“We presented House and Senate leadership with a stack of signatures even taller their massive 2,801-page health care law,” commented Dean Clancy, Vice President of Health Care Policy at FreedomWorks.

“Reid and Pelosi’s offices didn’t welcome us, but with all those signatures they heard our message loud and clear: repeal this unpopular law now.”

A Gallup poll revealed 72 percent of Americans believe the individual mandate is unconstitutional. FreedomWorks has worked for years to spread the message that President Obama’s individual mandate is an unprecedented and unconstitutional infringement on liberty that will kill jobs and drive up the cost of health care for families nationwide.

The bill also contains an unethical IPAB health care rationing board, which appoints unelected federal bureaucrats to in effect, ration Medicare funds with almost no review by Congress.

“The House and Senate could technically override the IPAB’s decisions with a 2/3 vote, but that is unlikely to ever happen,” Clancy added.

The Supreme Court will begin hearing oral arguments over the constitutionality of the individual mandate on Monday. FreedomWorks has already submitted to the Supreme Court a legal brief arguing that Obamacare is unconstitutional. The brief contains evidence that Obamacare will destroy affordable insurance options, including consumer-driven health plans and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).

“Our legal argument goes one step further than most out there,” Clancy explained. “We argue that even if the Court somehow determines the government has the power to force Americans buy a private product, it should still strike the law down as an unduly burdensome exercise of that power.”

FreedomWorks and its network of over 1.6 million activists believe in a patient-centered approach to health care that would allow for competition across state lines, and provide market incentives for the best quality care at the lowest cost to the patient without unconstitutional mandates.
