The following is a statement from Maya MacGuineas, President of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and head of the Campaign to Fix the Debt:
“We are hopeful that the White House and Congress will continue to work together to find common ground on our country’s fiscal future. The American people are counting on their leaders to put into place a long-term solution to fix the debt that will provide economic stability.
“With only nine legislative days left between now and the end of the fiscal year, we call on the President and Members of Congress to put into place a formal process to hold discussions to develop a plan for how to fund the government, deal with the sequester, and avoid a government default. Further delay puts the economy and the country at great risk. There is a lot that needs to be done and the clock is ticking.”
