What does IP mean and what is it?
IP is an acronym for Internet Protocol which specifies the technical formats of packets and addresses for computers to be able to communicate over a network. An IP alone is often compared to be something much like a postal service. It uses an address of a computer or server to drop packages into the system. What is an IPv4?

What is IPv6?
Unlike IPv4, IPv6 is the most recent version of Internet Protocol. This version is used very similar towards IPv4 but uses a 128-bit address which is simplified in a smaller form factor. IPv6 was used to eventually replace Internet Protocol version 4 during December 1998 but became an internet standard by July 2017. How to tell the two apart?
IP addresses us with a binary set of numbers that can be stored so that an operator of a network can read them. The IPv4 address is written decimal form with four sets of numbers separated by a period. Each number is particularly anywhere from 0 to 255. A prime example of an IPv4 IP address could be 220.127.116.11.
IPv6 is somewhat more complexed than an IPv4 as it uses a 128-bit IP address that is written in a hexadecimal format. Each hexadecimal is separated by a colon instead of a period. They are long zeros that are compressed into a small form so that it is not overbearing for an operator’s eyes. An example of an IPv6 address could read as FFE0:00D0:211G:219A.
