Why a Neuroradiologist Turned to Podcasting: Inside Mind of Mistry’s Primal Shots

For more than two decades, I’ve spent my career reading brains, literally. As a board-certified neuroradiologist, I’ve interpreted more than 300,000 brain and body imaging studies, watching the physical toll that modern life takes on the nervous system long before a patient ever feels it. That vantage point is what led me to launch Mind of Mistry, a new podcast network exploring longevity, neuroscience, human performance, and what it actually means to live well in the age of AI.

The idea for the show’s flagship series, Primal Shots, came out of an unexpected conversation with a producer from Hot Ones. That show built its entire format around a simple insight: pressure changes what people are willing to say. Each wing brought a guest closer to their truth. I found myself asking a different question: what would that look like in health and human performance, instead of heat? The answer became Primal Shots: five functional beverages, each built around adaptogens, anti-inflammatories, and phytonutrients, paired with a single question tied to a specific human quality: presence, clarity, drive, connection, and legacy. Guests don’t know the questions in advance. The ritual becomes the interview.

The problem I was really trying to solve wasn’t a content gap. It was a disconnection gap. Burnout, distraction, and cognitive fatigue are rising even as AI systems handle more of our day-to-day thinking, and the research backs this up: the World Health Organization has classified burnout as an occupational phenomenon, and studies point to a measurable contraction in average attention spans over the past two decades. My clinical work gave me a front-row seat to that biology. Primal Shots exist to interrupt it, one honest conversation at a time.

For my audience, people who care about longevity, healthspan, and performing at a high level without burning out, the most immediate benefit is a practical one. Every episode is built to surface something usable: a habit, a mental model, a way of checking in with yourself that doesn’t require a lab test. The inaugural episode features Nick Hutchison, founder of BookThinkers, in a conversation about presence and lifelong learning that grew directly out of the Grounding shot’s opening question: how do you start your day with presence? That’s the format working exactly as intended: a functional ritual producing a real answer, not a rehearsed one.

Mind of Mistry also folds into a broader body of work I’ve been building for years, including my book, Primal Health Design: 7 Key Paradigms to Reverse Biological Age, the Primal Reset Program, and BreathSpanâ„¢, my framework connecting breathing efficiency to nervous system regulation and long-term resilience. Primal Shots is really the drinkable, conversational version of that same thesis: that human vitality is rooted in seven primal connections: earth, body, food, mind, purpose, tribe, and cosmos, that most of us have quietly lost touch with.

Looking ahead, the next step is expansion, not just of the guest list, though we do have physicians, researchers, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders lined up to discuss healthspan, leadership, and the future of human performance, but of the format itself. Primal Shots is designed to grow beyond the podcast into live events, wellness partnerships, and a product line of functional shot blends, alongside a larger conversation about what it means to be a fully embodied human being in an increasingly automated world.

As the shots get healthier, the questions get deeper. That’s the whole premise of the show, and it’s the same premise driving my clinical work: presence and evidence, not performance for its own sake.
