The woman brought in to help restore the tarnished image of the Secret Service, rocked by scandal in recent years but particularly this past week, resigned on Wednesday.
Thirty-year veteran special agent Julia Pierson was the first female director of the elite agency, which had been hampered by reports of inappropriate behavior and security shortfalls in recent years. But Pierson herself was forced to resign following a string of incidents indicating serious negligence among on-duty protective officers.
