Parties Divided

Last night’s primary elections and caucuses revealed divides within both political parties, but especially in the hard-fought race for the Republican  nomination.

“The underlying cultural and economic reasons for this battle can be found in the extensive data that are the foundation of the Family Prosperity Initiative’s Family Prosperity Index (FPI Index),” according to economists Wendy Warcholik, Ph.D., and J. Scott Moody, M.A., who created the FPI Index. “The Index is an entirely new measure that does what no previous resource has done. It demonstrates, quantitatively, the undeniable link between economic and social policy and its impact on family  prosperity.

“While it was created for use by think tanks, policymakers and advocates in formulating economic and social policies that foster family prosperity,” the economists explained, “the FPI Index can also be used by political analysts and the news media to unearth the underlying economic factors behind the current political  climate. ”

The FPI Index assesses the economic and social status of six discrete index categories – economics, demographics, family structure, family self-sufficiency, family culture and family health. Each index is supported by five sub-indexes, which draw their data from 57 distinct data sources, all derived from publicly accessible data and backed up by current documentable  research.

This data is available on the FPI website to anyone who wants to better understand the factors at work in any given  state.

“When it comes to understanding the economy, the Family Prosperity Index is going to change everything,” said Matt Schlapp, Chairman of the American Conservative Union. “No other information source provides more credible and comprehensive insights into how the economy affects families and how families affect the  economy.”

The FPI Index was launched by the American Conservative Union Foundation to provide federal, state and local policymakers, as well as advocates and other community-minded citizens, a roadmap for the development of economic and social policies that improve the wellbeing and prosperity of American families. It will be presented at CPAC on Thursday, March  3rd.
