Texas Congressman: Terror Enclave Discovery 'Appalling'

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), Vice Chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security, says that the discovery of a terrorist enclave in Texas by the Clarion Project is “more than troubling—it’s appalling.” He criticized the “lackluster” response to the threat from Jamaat ul-Fuqra, also known as Muslims of the Americas.

His full statement to the Clarion Project is as follows:

“This lackluster response to the threat of terrorist involvement is more than troubling—it’s appalling, but typical.

“When this administration refuses to go to a Boston mosque to investigate radicalized attendees there such as Anwar al-Awlaki, Abdurahman Alamoudi, or the Tsarnaevs, but instead go to those mosques as part of their ‘outreach program’ to be better friends, then this country is in major trouble.

“It is always the federal government’s job to provide for the common defense against those who want to destroy us and our way of life. But this administration seems to think if we figuratively embrace snakes, they won’t bite us. The threat of terrorism is very real and should be treated as such, especially by our law enforcement.”

Rep. Gohmert is referring to the fact that the State Department has not designated Jamaat ul-Fuqra as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, even though it clearly fits the criteria. He also sees ul-Fuqra as being part of a pattern where the U.S. government has engaged in outreach with “moderate” Islamists.

Anwar al-Awlaki was a guest for lunch at the Pentagon shortly after the 9/11 attacks. It wasn’t long after that he became a senior member of Al-Qaeda (if he wasn’t already).

Abdurrahman Alamoudi was embraced by the Clinton and Bush Administrations and he traveled abroad on the State Department’s tab. He helped set up the Muslim chaplain program for the military and prisons. He was then arrested in 2003 on terrorism-related charges and later admitted to being a secret member of the U.S.Muslim Brotherhood.

The Tsarnaevs, the Islamist terrorists who carried out the Boston Marathon bombings, attended the Islamic Society of Boston, a mosque with strong links to the Muslim Brotherhood. Its radical indoctrination scared away one Muslim activist interviewed byClarion.

Counter-terrorism expert Patrick Poole writes that Jamaat ul-Fuqra, also known as Muslims of the Americas, fits into the same pattern. The FBI and local law enforcement have engaged the group in similar outreach. Gullible Christians and politicians, like former Binghamton Mayor Matthew T. Ryan and former Owego Mayor Edward Arrington, have fallen for the group’s interfaith front, the United Muslim Christian Forum.

The Clarion Project’s identification of a Muslims of the Americas’ Texas terror enclave called “Mahmoudberg,” confirmed by declassified FBI documents that were never before seen by the public, has resulted in international media coverage.

FOX News Channel covered it on “Fox & Friends,” airing the segment multiple times and posting it on the homepage of FoxNews.com. The Blaze aired an entire episode (see below) of For the Record titled “Sleeper Cell” based largely on Clarion research and discussed the Texas camp on Wilkow. The Voice of Russia even reported on it.

The newly-released FBI documents, as well as Clarion’s videotape of women training at the Muslims of the Americas’ headquarters in New York, are smoking guns. Send our original article to your Congressman and ask that Jamaat ul-Fuqra be designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.
