Gambling Regulations in Pennsylvania

PGCB regulates gambling activities in the state strictly. There are various rules set in place for both the gamblers and the casino companies to follow.

One such rule is the minimum age requirement. Pennsylvanian players are required to be at least 21 years old to gamble at both land-based casinos as well as on online platforms.

Furthermore, the laws allow certain particular activities for the online casinos to host. These include online table games, slot games, sports betting, online poker, Daily Fantasy Sports, online lottery, video gambling terminals and minim-casinos.

Some of the Prominent Casinos in Pennsylvania

With the legalization of the casinos, several different platforms starting building their bases at Pennsylvania. However, not all casinos are equipped with all the gambling options.

Some of the prominent platforms here include Parx, SugarHouse, Unibet, Harrah’s, Mount Airy, Hollywood, Presque Isle, BetRivers and Valley Forge. Some of these land-based casinos also have created their online platforms.

Daily Fantasy Sports can be played at the platforms like DraftKings, Draft, Sportshub Technologies, Yahoo Fantasy Sports, FanDuel, Boom Fantasy, Full Time Fantasy Sports and Fantasy Draft.

How has the gambling fared in Pennsylvania after legalizing it?

Gambling activities were welcomed with open arms by the residents of Pennsylvania. Within a year of legalizing gambling here, the 7 casinos in the area were able to generate earnings over USD 1 billion.

The Government made sure to implement high tax rates on the casino games and slots machines. Each of the games is taxed differently and based on their popularity they produce taxes. This in turn generated massive tax for Pennsylvania. All in all, the Government collects over $1.5 billion in taxes annually through gambling.

Furthermore, the land-based casinos were also able to create thousands of job opportunities to occupy on their platform. As of 2016, the casinos across the state employed over 18,000 workers that helped them run these establishments successfully.

For now, Pennsylvania remains among the top gambling destinations in the US with over a variety of options to gamble over.

This clearly shows legalizing gambling in the state of Pennsylvania has been beneficial for the Government. However, with around 54% tax applicable on the gross gambling income, the casino platforms don’t seem to be on the profitable side as the Government.
