Abortion In America

Read Time:13 Minute, 50 Second

By April Dye, Contributor to US Daily Review.

On the anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision, contributor April Dye looks at abortion in America and offers some interesting insights.

For the sake of argument, religion will not be brought up regarding this subject. First, I think it can stand on its own without it. Second, for those who are not Christian or do not hold the same beliefs (in God etc), it just blocks them from even wanting to listen any further to reason or knowledge.

The topic today I wish to discuss is ABORTION. For some reason this topic has become political. This is not a political issue or a women’s issue; it is an ethical one. Even more so one of humanity.

Why, is it that anyone who opposes abortion is misguided or narrow minded and biased?

It has been stated that 1.3 million women in the United States have abortions a year. That is a staggering amount. Is this something we should be proud of?

Looking past the statistics, let us look at a point that no one else seems to make; let us look at those who would defend having an abortion. Some of these people care more about animals and trees than they do about human beings. I am all for making sure animals are not abused and the environment is being taken care of – however, not over taking care of any human life.

I must ask this question because it has bothered me for quite awhile. Why is it that when a pregnancy is wanted, from the minute that the parents find out; it is a baby, but when it is an unwanted pregnancy it is a fetus, a collection of cells, a blob, tissue, nothing or a women’s right to choose? In my opinion, the women’s right to choose was at the moment she decided to have sex. In all cases; rape, etc. it is not the baby’s fault. It is a product of an action. Why are we so appalled when we hear stories about newborn babies being left in trashcans to die but are not appalled when we hear about abortions? I have even heard people make jokes about it!

Abortion is not a political issue. It is a social issue. It is not a women’s issue. It is a human rights/civil rights issue. Biologically there is no doubt that human life begins at fertilization.  Doctors, real doctors – not abortionists, will tell you that life begins at conception. Major point for these abortionists they need to remember – abortion goes against the Hippocratic Oath: “I will not give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest counsel; and in a like manner I will not give a woman a pessary to induce abortion.”

This is the kicker – this is the clincher. This is what they don’t want you to ponder on.  These are the true reasons behind abortion. 1. CONVENIENCE. That is what it is all about. Do babies change your life? Yes. Do they cost money?  Yes. Is it sometimes inconvenient to be pregnant ? Yes. But what loving parent would change a thing? What loving parent wishes their child had never been born? What loving parent would not say that any inconvenience was worth it – just to hold and look at the precious child? NONE.

And the other reason – the big one.  The reason that the politicians, pro-abortion activists and abortionists keep legal is MONEY. Yes, money. Now for the mother (yes, mother) getting the abortion, it is about convenience – hers, her parents or the father’s. However, for the clinic/doctor doing the procedure, it is all about the cash. Doctors/clinics get the money and they in turn give it to the politicians who make the laws that let them continue.  There is NO medical reason, especially in this day and age, to have an abortion. They can do surgery in the womb. Women on chemo have had babies. I could go on and on and list the medical miracles that can be done these days to counter act any of the “for the health of the mother” excuses.

But let us not forget incest and rape (.05% of those getting abortions).  Favorite sidetrack that pro-abortion advocates like to turn you down. Having an abortion is not going to take away from the horror of what those two things are. But instead of just that pain and humiliation, do you want to add to it, guilt? Now advocates for abortion will tell you that that is a myth. Maybe. Nevertheless, statistics do not lie. I know women who have had abortions – they have told me of their guilt, shame and regret.

To be fair, I went to the Planned Parenthood website and decided to compare their website to the medical information from a physician (who used to run an abortion clinic – Carol Everett and author of The Scarlet Lady). Below are some information from the PPH (Planned Parent Hood) website and then some scientific facts.

PPH: These are the 3 ways in which to have an induced abortion:
With Medicine, vacuum aspiration, or surgery.

On their website, Planned Parenthood states the method of abortions but did not give a description of what each procedure entailed but here they are from Carol Everett).

WITH MEDICINE:

Salt Poisoning or Saline Method: 4-7 mo. Long needle inserted into mother’s abdomen & strong salt solution injected directly into the amniotic fluid surrounding the baby. Salt is swallowed, “breathed” and slowly poisons the baby and severely burns its skin. Mother goes into labor w/in 24 hrs and expels dead and shriveled baby. Some babies survive “salting out” and are born with severe complications.

Prostaglandin: 4-8 mos. These hormone-like compounds are injected or applied to uterine muscle, causing intense contractions, expelling developing baby. Side effects and live births are common.

Digoxin Induction: 5-8 mos. Cervix dilated as in D & E. Ultrasound imaging used to guide syringe filled with Digoxin (adult heart-moderating drug) into heart of baby, stopping it instantly. Prostaglandin induces labor, delivering dead baby. Virtually 100% effective.

RU 486 (Morning After Pill) Produces bad cramping and side effects. Used in conjunction with Prostaglandin.

VACUUM ASPIRATION:

Suction Curettage: 1-3 mos. 80% of all abortions (15 min procedure). Dilatation with dilator rods. Powerful suction tube inserted through the cervix into the womb. Developing baby’s body and placenta are torn into pieces and sucked into a jar. Head crushed and extracted.

Dilatation and Evacuation (D & E): 4-8 mo. Cervix dilated using laminaria (seaweed) and dilator rods. Forceps inserted grasping body parts, twisting them off and removing them in pieces. Spine and skull are crushed and extracted. Curette (sharp, oval-shaped knife) used to scrape out uterus. Body pieces reassembled to verify completion.

SURGERY:

Hysterotomy or Cesarean Section 6-8 mo. Incision is made through abdomen into womb. Baby is removed, allowed to die by neglect, or is killed by strangulation or other direct act while inside mother.

PPH:
The Most Common Reasons Women Choose Abortion are:
* She is not ready to become a parent
* She cannot afford a baby
* She doesn’t want to be a single parent
* She doesn’t want anyone to know she has had sex or is pregnant
* She is too young or too immature to have a child
* She has all the children she wants
* Her husband, partner, or parent wants her to have an abortion
* She or the fetus has a health problem
*She was a survivor of rape or incest

PPH:  When are abortions performed?
90% of abortions are provided in the first trimester (1-3 months).

DAY 21 – THE HEART BEGINS TO BEAT

DAY 28  – THE BACKBONE & MUSCLES ARE FORMING
ARMS, LEGS, EYES & EARS HAVE BEGUN TO SHOW

WK 6  – THE LIVER IS NOW WORKING & THE BRAIN IS BEGINNING TO CONTROL MOVEMENT OF MUSCLES & ORGANS
THE MOTHER HAS PROBABLY JUST CONFIRMED SHE IS PREGNANT

WK 8  – EVERYTHING IS NOW PRESENT THAT WILL BE FOUND IN A FULLY DEVELOPED ADULT
THE BABY’S BODY RESPONDS TO TOUCH

PPH:  Fewer than 11% take place in the second trimester (4-6 months).

MO 4  – EARS ARE FUNCTIONING (THE BABY CAN HEAR IT’S MOTHER’S HEARTBEAT)

PPH:  Abortion is very rare and only done for serious health reasons after 24 weeks.

MO 7 THE BABY NOW USES ALL FOUR SENSES

PPH:  Can an embryo or fetus feel pain?
We know for sure that the embryo or fetus cannot perceive pain in the nearly 99% of all abortions that occur before the 20th week of pregnancy. It is even possible that a fetus is unable to perceive pain at any time during pregnancy. If, however, the ability to feel pain does develop before birth and consciousness, it is likely to happen only after the 28th week of pregnancy, when abortion is performed only for urgent medical reasons.

MOST ABORTIONS ARE DONE AFTER SIX WEEKS. AT SIX WEEKS, WHEN THE FACE OF A DEVELOPING BABY IS TOUCHED, IT MOVES IT’S HEAD BACK. AT 11 WEEKS THE FETUS WILL MOVE AWAY FROM A NEEDLE USED FOR AMNIOCENTESIS. IN THE FILM, THE SILENT SCREAM (an ultrasound video of an abortion), YOU SEE THE SUCTION CURET COMING INTO THE AMNIOTIC FLUID. THIS 12 WEEK-OLD BABY’S HEART RATE GOES UP, AND IT HIDES AT THE TOP OF THE UTERUS AND THRASHES AROUND IN A VAIN ATTEMPT TO GET AWAY.

PPH:  How will I feel after an abortion?

Most women feel relief. Some women feel anger, regret, guilt, or sadness for a little while. Sudden hormonal changes may intensify these feelings.

Some people who oppose women’s right to make their own decisions claim that abortion often causes long-lasting emotional problems, or “post-abortion syndrome.” There is no scientific proof for these claims.

ABORTION INVOLVES RISKS, TRAUMA & SIDE EFFECTS. BECAUSE INDUCED ABORTION IS AN UNNATURAL, HOSTILE, PENETRATION OF A CLOSED AND SAFEGUARDED BIOLOGICAL SYSTEM – THE CHILD IN THE WOMB – THE MOTHER IS ALWAYS EXPOSED TO RISKS AND TO SHORT AND LONG TERM COMPLICATIONS, BOTH PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL.

INCOMPLETE ABORTIONS RESULTING IN BLOOD CLOTTING, BLEEDING HEMORRHAGE AND INFECTIONS ARE NOT UNCOMMON. MENSTRUAL DISTURBANCE, MISCARRIAGE, TUBAL PREGNANCIES, AND STERILITY ARE ALWAYS RISKS AND TEND TO MULTIPLY WITH SUCCESSIVE ABORTIONS. CERVICAL LACERATION AND UTERINE PERFORATION CAN RESULT FROM SUCTION AND D&C PROCEDURES. CARDIAC ARRESTS AND MATERNAL DEATHS HAVE ALSO BEEN REPORTED.

LONG TERM PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS, WHICH ARE JUST NOW BEGINNING TO BE SERIOUSLY STUDIED, INCLUDE GUILT, ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, ANGER, SENSE OF LOSS, NIGHTMARES, DEATH SCENES, DETERIORATION OF SELF IMAGE AND EVEN SUICIDE.

IN FACT, HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS ARE SEEING A DRAMATIC INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF WOMEN WITH PAD.

The Planned Parenthood website has a warning: Hundreds of so-called “crisis centers” scare women about abortion. They lie about the medical and emotional effects of abortion. Most often, they give pregnancy tests without professional medical supervision. And they discourage sexually active women from using the most common and effective methods of birth control.

(National statistics on abortion show that 10% of women undergoing induced abortion suffer from immediate complications, of which one-fifth (20%) were considered major.)

(Studies within the first few weeks after the abortion have found that between 40 and 60 percent of women questioned report negative reactions. Within 8 weeks after their abortions, 55% expressed guilt, 44% complained of nervous disorders, 36% had experienced sleep disturbances, 31% had regrets about their decision, and 11% had been prescribed psychotropic medicine by their family doctor.)

I am amazed at the audacity of this website to say that these other clinics lie about the medical and emotion effects of abortion. Nowhere did I see where it detailed what an abortion really is. It is made to sound as nonchalant as a trip to the dentist. Not the ripping out, chopping up or crushing of a human being. Unfortunately, I know several people who have had abortions and they have all regretted it.

Being a mother, it astounds me even more that the destruction of a life, an innocent, defenseless child is taken so lightly. There are so many people out there that cannot have children and would and have done so many medical procedures and spent countless amounts of money to have one. My desire is this – if you are pregnant and you do not want the child, find someone who does.

I am also tired of this issue being used as a political tool. It has nothing to do with politics. But lets give the pro-choice politicians something to think about…if the babies were alive today that have been aborted since it became legal, we would not be in the situation we are right now with social security and other financial problems within our communities. At least 40 million babies have been aborted. How much revenue in taxes would they have brought? How much money into the economy would they have brought?

I am totally for the legalization of mandatory sonograms for anyone wanting to have an abortion – provided by another doctor who is not invested in the situation, but to give an honest medical opinion. Why? Because planned parenthood and other organizations that are pro-abortion lie and distort the facts.  Abortion rights activists and clinics pander misinformation.  They would like to keep the prospective patient’s in the dark about what actually happens during an abortion – the process and its effects.  They will tell you it is not a baby. They even have had the gall to tell patients that it is safer to have an abortion than to actually carry a baby to full term. Wow, I risked my health two times and did not even know it – my doctors must be stupid. Wow, that Mrs. Duggart is a risk taker if I have ever seen one.

We have to face reality. Our future generations are being decimated. These are innocent human beings. Destined for a life and a future. These are our future scientist, inventors, humanitarians, heroes, farmers, accountants, pharmacists, landscapers, teachers, neighbors, fathers and mothers.

If you are going to be adults and have sex, then be a responsible adult and take responsibility for your actions. Every decision in our lives has consequences.

Abortion is murder. I hate to say it, I know people who have had abortions – most unwillingly participants either by shame of a parent, of inconvenience for a boyfriend or new marriage. Do I hate them, no.  Do I think bad things should happen to them, no.  I think they were misguided and misinformed.  But it is the taking of a life – a soul. A what could have been – a future.

For those of you who may have had one, you can be forgiven. However, for those who are thinking that it is okay – do not, so you will not have to be. We all make mistakes. This is not the 1950’s. Unfortunately these days, it is not taboo to be unmarried and pregnant. It is not even taboo to be a young girl and pregnant. So go through your pregnancy, and then you have the option to either keep the baby or let someone else have the chance to.

Life is precious. Every human life is sacred and special. No one deserves to be judge and jury on a life not yet lived. You may find, it was the best decision you have ever made.

“We must stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.”  Isn’t that one of PETA’s tag lines.
