Democrats are on Retreat from Obamacare

Read Time:2 Minute, 30 Second

We knew that this would happen eventually. It was only a matter of time. There was only so long that the Democrats could go without starting to turn on the monstrosity that has become Obamacare.

Six United States Senators, Sens. Mark Warner (D-VA), Mark Begich (D-AK), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), Joe Manchin (D-WV), and Angus Kin (I-ME) have now called for major changes to fix Obamacare.

After more than 6 million Americans had their health insurance plans cancelled several Democrats are now calling for the creation of new “bronze” plans that would essentially make legal the 6 million health insurance plans that the President made illegal.

The Senators also want to abolish the employer mandate for employers with less than 100 employees.

The reality is that we are in an election year and all of these Senators are scared. Even the administration has acknowledged the need to strip down the law as much as possible because of all of the disastrous side effects.

The administration is extending every deadline possible. They can’t figure out which parts of the law they want to enforce and which ones they don’t. It’s become an absolute disaster.

These Senators are just trying to do whatever they can to win an election. In actuality, they could be hurting America more than they know. While implementing the changes such as allowing more health insurance policies with higher deductibles and lower premiums, and ridding employers of the “employer mandate”, might be good things, ultimately all of the Obamacare fixes will be bad for our nation.

The reality is that this law is an absolute disaster and has been a gigantic waste of time and money. While there have been some positive things achieved by the health care law, don’t let it fool you. This law has damaged our country and the only way to get rid of it is to have it enforced.

To paraphrase President Ulysses S. Grant, the best way to repeal a bad law is to enforce it vigorously. While Republicans might have clamored to repeal and replace, you have to know how bad the law actually is.

But I do give credit to these Democrats regardless of their motivation for recommending these changes. Democrats have resorted to defending this law as a matter of political dogma. To say anything that in any way disparages Obamacare is considered sacrilege.

It’s time that we remove the “golden calf” status of this law and see it for the false hope that it is. It is the law whose greatest success has been insuring individuals who previously had their health insurance policies cancelled by the law itself.

It is only after we take off the blinders can we see the law for what it truly is.
