EDN Asks: Why Major in Computer Science?

For interns slaving away, or high school seniors thinking about college, getting the right degree in order to land the best job is something to be thinking about this summer. For those wanting to land a coveted position in Silicon Valley at Google, Twitter, or Facebook, a computer science degree seems the right fit.

 

 

However, science writer Ransom Stephens says: Wait just one minute.

 

 

On EDN, Stephens offers five distinct reasons why college students, as well as high school graduates getting ready to head off to the university of their choice, should skip a computer science degree. He writes: “You’re convinced that majoring in CS will teach you everything you need to know to write that cool app and make you an instant millionaire, but it’s not quite true.”
