Hollywood has been in full support mode of the Democrats in their efforts to hang onto political power following the midterm elections.

Using Internet videos, celebrity endorsements, financial contributions, and power-packed fundraising events, entertainment figures have been key players in Democrat campaigns across the nation.

Hollywood is masterful when it comes to content creation, and one of the primary ways entertainment industry activists are able to contribute to the campaigns of their choice is through assisting in the design and production of video footage. Video of this type has the potential to be exponential in its attention-attracting payoff, particularly if it should go viral on the Internet.

Lena Dunham, the creator, writer, and star of the HBO series “Girls,” has played a lead role in the attempt by Democrats to perpetuate their carefully crafted “War on Women” meme. Dunham appeared in a “Rock the Vote” music video, performed in another filmed segment that sought to motivate the female vote by having Dunham lip sync to the classic tune “You Don’t Own Me,” and most recently, had a prominent role in a Planned Parenthood video, which urged women to resist so-called sexist politicians who are allegedly trying to tell female voters what they may or may not do with their bodies.

A group called “We The Economy” was founded by documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, best known for the Academy Award nominated “Super Size Me,” and Microsoft billionaire Paul Allen. Evidently, one of the group’s main purposes had been to provide left leaning content that would be perfectly timed for the midterm elections. Spurlock also happens to be the host and producer of the CNN show “Inside Man,” and his group is responsible for the release of “20 Short Films You Can’t Afford To Miss,” which features a string of projects that combines comedy, animation, music, and propaganda and uses the movie media format to attack free market ideas and advocate big government policies.

Additionally, “Anchorman” director and Funny or Die website co-founder Adam McKay has contributed content to the group, and in one animated piece voices are provided by celebrities Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and Sarah Silverman.

Content of this kind is worth millions of dollars, which obviously has solely benefitted the Democratic Party. Even more specific in its targeting has been an apparent effort by political operatives to guide TV and film entertainment luminaries in their choices of which campaigns they would be supporting. The U.S. Senate race in Kentucky had Hollywood types giving their cash to Democrat candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes. Many of the stars were seemingly motivated by the notion that the money would lead to an embarrassing loss by GOP Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. The Bluegrass State, which is not normally on the Hollywood radar, has seen hundreds of thousands of dollars stream into the campaign coffers of Grimes’ Senate campaign.

More than 100 individuals who work in various capacities in Hollywood have given the maximum amount allowed under the campaign finance law to the Grimes campaign, this according to the Federal Election Commission. Some of the big names who gave the top amount include Ben Affleck, Cameron Diaz, Mike Myers, Jon Hamm, Steven Spielberg, Jerry Seinfeld, Ted Danson, Danny Devito, Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, James Cameron, and Nicolas Cage.

Other entertainment types seeking to defeat McConnell include DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, Woody Allen, America Ferrera, Leonard Nimoy, Barbra Streisand, Aaron Sorkin, Ben Stiller, and Chris Rock.

Producer-manager Keith Addis brought Democrat Sen. Mark Begich all the way from Alaska to his California home for a fundraising event in which singer Carole King performed. Begich has collected campaign donations from Streisand, producer Steve Bing, and filmmaker J.J. Abrams.

Arkansas Democrat Sen. Mark Pryor benefitted from a fundraiser in which cash was raised for the incumbent and for Begich as well. The event took place at the home of Disney chairman Alan Horn. Pryor has received donations from Danson, Katzenberg, Universal’s Jeff Shell, and Dish Network’s Charlie Ergen.

Georgia Democrat candidate Michelle Nunn came to Tinseltown for a fundraiser at the home of husband and wife media moguls Michael Kong and Stacy Twilley.

Colorado Democrat Sen. Mark Udall obtained financial support from Streisand, Rob Reiner, Ed Zwick, Horn, and Spielberg.

New Hampshire Democrat Sen. Jeanne Shaheen scored donations from Streisand, Nancy Sinatra, Garrison Keeler, and “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy.

Add to the Democrat campaign stash the piles of donations that resulted from fundraisers in which Hollywood notables were afforded the opportunity to give the maximum $32,400 to the Democratic National Committee and it quickly becomes apparent that the entertainment community is fully invested in the outcome of the elections.
