It’s been said that love can build a bridge, but faith is what holds it all together, and that’s exactly what the Christian business organization Life Surge is all about.
Founded by Joe Johnson, the company aims to equip individuals with tools and strategies to integrate their faith into their professional practices and careers.
In a recent interview, Johnson, the CEO of Life Surge, shared insights into the company’s mission and its approach to empowering faith in the workplace. The organization’s main focus stems from Johnson’s personal experiences and observations of what he perceived as a disconnect between spiritual life and professional endeavors within many Christian communities. Faith is Johnson’s guiding light.
“My faith drives how I look at business, how we do hiring, how we do marketing, it drives everything,” Johnson shares. “And the people here, their faith, I would argue, drives them as well. Our views about how to teach people how to invest in real estate, how to start a business, how to scale a business, how to invest in the markets are all led by our faith in the views that we have.”
And Life Surge’s faith-driven mission doesn’t end there. Johnson says faith shouldn’t just be observed on Sundays — it’s a full-time job. The speakers the organization selects to appear onstage at in-person events in cities across the country are focused on faith, too. Some of the Christian-based speakers who will be appearing at upcoming events for Life Surge include New York Times bestselling author Priscilla Shirer, nine-time Grammy nominee Natalie Grant, and Nick Vujicic, a motivational speaker who was born without limbs but demonstrates on the daily that his determination is limitless.
“We want to be authentic to who we are,” Johnson adds. “We do not put a divide between Sunday and Monday. We bring our faith to the workplace and our speakers. That’s kind of part of our criteria that they have to be authentic. If we sense or if we smell that they are not authentic, we will not have them on our stage. That is probably our No. 1 criteria.”
The organization’s approach revolves around what Johnson calls the “Four W’s of Kingdom Impact: worship, wisdom, work, and wealth.”
Through events, educational programs, and community-building initiatives, Life Surge seeks to provide individuals with practical strategies for aligning their faith with business practices. The company’s rapid growth — Johnson reports a 46,000% increase in the past three years — suggests a significant demand for this type of guidance within the Christian business community.
“At Life Surge, we’re actively participating in the ‘next great move of God,’” Johnson said. “We’re shattering records and proving that the impact of believers truly has no bounds.”
What Does Life Surge Do?
If you’re wondering what does Life Surge do, Life Surge is empowering lives at the intersection of Christianity and entrepreneurialism — and wealth creation is a key facet. Johnson acknowledges that this can be a contentious subject within religious circles. “In the church there are different views … on one extreme, you have sort of the prosperity view, and then on another extreme, you have what I call the poverty view. And then in the middle you have the neutral view,” he explains.
Life Surge’s approach, as described by Johnson, focuses on stewardship rather than subscribing to any extreme viewpoint. “We have a stewardship responsibility over our health. We have a stewardship responsibility of our families, we have a stewardship responsibility … over the resources and the talents that God has given us,” Johnson stated.
The enterprise’s events and programs aim to provide practical education on topics such as investing, real estate, and business strategies, all framed within a faith-based context. The aim is that Christians will grow their financial resources and then use them for Kingdom Impact.
Life Surge’s mission to empower faith in the workplace represents a growing trend of organizations seeking to weave spiritual beliefs with professional pursuits. The fusion of faith and business appears to be in good hands with Life Surge.
“We’re unashamed of our beliefs that we want to inspire other people who are a part of the kingdom to advance the kingdom,” says Madison Fjeld, Life Surge marketing director. “And I think that that’s really important because we are pretty bold, and we’re saying that not only is it something that we shouldn’t shy away from, but we should be bold in that stance.”
