Top 5 Most Affordable Drift Cars

Read Time:2 Minute, 10 Second

There’s nothing wrong with a little bit of drift. Most of us car enthusiasts have seen professional drivers displaying this flashy automotive stunt and wondered if we could attempt to pull it off ourselves. It all starts with having the right vehicle, though, and if you’ve got the money to spare, you might want to look at some of these rear-wheeled powerhouses to set you down the right path.

The BMW 3-Series

This German-manufactured compact car has been in production since the mid-1970s. That leaves quite a few generations of this automobile to pick from, but just about any would satisfy your need for drifting corners. If you’re after something a bit more recent, you’ll definitely want to check out the M versions, particularly the E46 M3 model.

Nissan 350Z

Even in their stock form, Nissan’s 350Z makes for an excellent choice if you want to start learning to drift. You’ll recall this vehicle making an appearance in the appropriately named film, “Tokyo Drift,” but beyond its notable screentime, this model is one you can pick up for just a modest investment of your cash.

Mazda RX-7

If there’s one thing this Mazda has in spades, its looks. That chassis is, without a doubt, gorgeous, but the RX-7 can do much more than sit pretty. If you can track one of these down, you’ve got plenty of options to build the drifting machine of your dreams. Just be sure to do some thorough research beforehand so you know exactly which mods you’ll need, and which you can pass on.

Toyota Corolla AE86

This is another classic model that has plenty of builds for you to draw inspiration from. Though it was only in production from 1983 to 1987, the AE86’s reach throughout the world of auto enthusiasts is still felt to this day. There’s one drawback you’ll have to take into consideration if you’re eyeing this model, though. Since it’s such an iconic old model, most that you’ll come across will cost you a pretty penny.

Make Sure You Drift Safe

If you’re keen on learning how to drift, make sure to do so safely, lest you end up in a situation where you need the skills of a skilled Colorado car accident attorney. You can check out Road & Track’s excellent article on the basics of drifting, and start off slow so you can get those rudiments under your belt in a controlled environment before putting your skills to the test.
