What to Do About Undocumented Immigrants

Responding to the Trump administration’s expansion of expedited removal policies, American Families United President Kimberly Anderson was blunt: “The best thing the President could do about undocumented immigrants is to stop making so many of  them.”

“By expanding the categories for summary removal in all directions, willy-nilly, the Trump administration shows that it still doesn’t understand its job is to protect the rights of US citizens,” Anderson said. “American Families United is the only organization representing US citizens married to new Americans who have been caught by the fish hooks and bear traps that litter our immigration laws. This kind of all-enforcement, all-the-time, everywhere Trump approach is an attempt to force us to choose between our marriages and America – which is our country.  We’re not going to take  it.”

“We have bipartisan legislation in Congress, HR 1036, the American Families United Act,” sponsored by Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) and Steve Pearce (R-NM), Anderson explained. “We have proposed specific steps that must be taken to reform our immigration laws to uphold our American values and rights as US  Citizens.”

“We recently launched an online petition, which got a thousand signatures in less than a week,” Anderson said. “American citizens are the most neglected constituency in the immigration debate, but that is changing. We are going to be  heard.”
