The modern multiplayer market is crowded with games that advertise cooperation but often reward individual performance. While many titles allow players to work together, success rarely depends on true coordination. At Limina Games, we saw an opportunity to explore a different approach: creating a game where teamwork is not simply encouraged—it is required.
This idea became the foundation of CREWED, a chaotic co-op space game currently available through an open Steam Playtest. Players take on different responsibilities aboard a barely functional spacecraft while dealing with constant emergencies, system failures, and unexpected disasters. No single player can keep the ship running alone. Survival depends entirely on communication, role management, and collective decision-making.
The inspiration came partly from observing how successful teams operate under pressure. Whether in startups, emergency response units, or complex technical organizations, outcomes often depend less on individual talent and more on coordination between people handling different responsibilities. We wanted to translate that dynamic into an interactive experience.
The launch of the Steam Playtest represents an important milestone for our studio. Limina Games was originally focused on virtual reality (VR) development, where we released multiple titles and built a strong understanding of immersive gameplay systems. However, as we evaluated long-term growth opportunities, we recognized the potential of expanding into the PC market and reaching a broader audience through Steam.
For players, the open Playtest provides immediate access to the game while allowing them to directly influence its future development. Community feedback is one of the most valuable resources available to independent studios. Rather than waiting until launch to discover design problems, we can identify pain points, improve balance, refine systems, and better understand player behavior before release.
For us as developers, the Playtest is also a strategic business decision. Independent studios operate in a highly competitive environment where resources are limited and market validation is critical. Opening the game to players early allows us to test assumptions, gather meaningful data, and build a community around the product before its official launch.
One particularly important factor is Steam Next Fest, one of the platform’s largest discovery events. The current Playtest gives us an opportunity to strengthen the game, expand visibility, and prepare for a larger audience during the festival period.
Looking ahead, our primary goal is to continue iterating on CREWED based on community feedback while expanding both the content and systems within the game. We are focused on improving progression, introducing new challenges, and creating even more opportunities for cooperative problem-solving.
More broadly, this project represents an important step in Limina Games’ evolution. Moving from VR into the PC market has challenged us to rethink our indie game development strategy, audience expectations, and growth targets. CREWED is not only a new game for us—it is the foundation of our next chapter as a studio.
As the gaming industry continues to evolve, we believe experiences that emphasize communication, cooperation, and shared responsibility will become increasingly valuable. CREWED is our attempt to build exactly that kind of deeply engaging indie co-op Steam game—one where success belongs to the team, not the individual.
