Recently the Price of ADHD Business health segment on the Price of Business radio show, Dr. Linda Lagemann PhD., a clinical psychologist, discussed the importance of New Mexico’s House Bill 53. Governor Susana Martinez signed the Bill into law, April 2015, which will protect parental rights for a decision not to medicate their children with psychoactive medications as a mandate for school attendance. This is a national problem and the state of New Mexico just took a significant step toward correcting this, Dr. Linda Lagemann testified as an expert witness, stating: “Parents’ rights have been secured and the children of New Mexico now have protection from the administration of psychiatric drugs on their developing brains.”
No longer can the state enforce protective custody of children for parent’s decision not to medicate their children. Furthermore, schools can no longer mandate psychological screening without the written consent of their parents. Expert clinical psychologist Dr. Linda Lagemann PhD. encouraged other states in the union to adopt the Bill which will give children across the US a voice against the premature use of psychoactive drug therapy.
Children worldwide deserve a voice against the premature use of psychoactive medications for behavioral symptoms prior to ruling out nutritional, physiological and environmental risk factors as discussed in The American Epidemic: Solutions for Over-medicating Our Youth. The Citizens Commission on Human Rights is a powerful advocate for children’s rights against the premature use of psychoactive medication therapy. Currently, over 11 percent of children under the age of 18 and over 4 percent of adults in the US are diagnosed with ADHD. More alarming, children in the US consume 3x the ADHD stimulant and psychiatric medications than the world’s children combined.
