Plastic surgery has always been a mysterious process for most people.  Generally TV shows and news stories showcasing plastic surgery feature a person before a plastic surgery procedure and then, within a few seconds, reveal like magic the final result of a better, more beautiful version of the same person that in reality is some weeks or months after surgery.

The real mystery that people want to unravel is what is it like to have plastic surgery, viewed from an actual patient’s first person perspective.  Now, with the fast growing trend of ‘Selfie’ video that almost any phone with a camera can take, is allowing us to be voyeurs and to vicariously experience a real true-to-life plastic surgery patient’s experience.

Beverly Hills board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Brent Moelleken www.drbrent.com was so intrigued by this trend that he requested permission from an actual patient to post the ‘Selfie’ video she had self produced of her Tummy Tuck procedure http://www.drbrentvideos.com/penny1.php

Dr. Moelleken noted that, even though he has performed thousands of plastic surgery procedures over the years, the unexpected and interesting perspective of this ‘Selfie’ video has been an important new tool to help him accurately answer questions that all patients ask about having a plastic surgery procedure.

According to a poll by the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons, they reported a notable increase in plastic surgery for procedures such as rhinoplastys, eyelid surgery and hair transplants of between 3% – 10% by patients who didn’t like what they saw in their “selfie.”.

Dr. Moelleken is not new to TV either and has himself starred on shows such Extreme Makeover, The Doctors, Dr. Oz and other high end media, and is nationally recognized for his signature procedures such as the 360 Facelift, and Hybrid Tummy Tuck which he performed on Jacqueline Laureta start of Bravo’s hit TV show The Real Housewives of New Jersey. He also performs breast augmentation and other plastic surgery, and is seeing an increase in patients scheduling surgery for plastic surgery of the face mainly due to ‘Selfies’.  For more information go to www.drbrent.com.
