Mistaken Connections Between Tevfik Arif and Donald Trump

Read Time:3 Minute, 3 Second

Tevfik Arif and Donald Trump have a strictly-business relationship with no Russian ties. It’s time to set the story straight.

Mistaken connections between Tevfik Arif and Donald Trump, Russia has no ties

Tevfik Arif and Donald Trump are critical figures in the real estate world. But, contrary to recent claims, their connection is strictly business, leaving no space for alleged political gains or Russian ties. Moreover, despite their widespread global projects and efforts, Arif and Trump only collaborated on one real estate project. This was the world-renowned Trump SoHo luxury hotel development.

Tevfik Arif’s Pursuit of the American Dream

Arif moved to the United States from a reputable international real estate background to seek new opportunities. The Bayrock Group, founded by Arif, moved its offices into the Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue as Arif found himself already thriving in New York. This is where the Bayrock team met Trump’s team and decided to collaborate.

Arif partnered with The Sapir Organization and the Rockwell Group to design and develop the beautiful New York City hotel. Arif has since left his position at Bayrock Group and is pursuing other interests. However, he is confident in the Trump SoHo project as a success that built up the city in a new way.

Bayrock Group teamed up with the two other companies to make the Trump SoHo come to life. They solely collaborated with Trump’s team by using the famous name to amplify the project’s success. Trump received 18% equity on the development for allowing Arif and his partners to use the name.

Rumors and unsubstantiated headlines

Some journalists and parts of the public purported connections between Arif, Trump, and Russia throughout the Robert Mueller investigation and in recent news. However, no backup supports these statements, and no evidence has been found to support such claims.

The mix-up of relational ties between Arif and Trump severely misguided the public on where the truth stands. Arif and Trump had a transparent real estate business relationship, and Russia has nothing to do with their dealings.

No backup to support the public’s claims

The brainstorming and construction surrounding the Trump SoHo simply did not match the Mueller special counsel investigation timeline. The hotel’s construction occurred from 2006 to 2008, while Trump wasn’t inaugurated until January 2017.

Considering the Mueller investigation mostly involved Trump’s activity in 2016, the Trump SoHo has no place in conversations regarding politics or Russian ties. Although investigators try to debunk the Trump SoHo project as a politically charged development, there is no evidence to back the claims. In addition, Mueller’s public report does not state anything about these supposed connections.

Background of businessman Tevfik Arif

Tevfik Arif is a businessman that started his life in Soviet Kazakhstan. It was here that he discovered his passion for business and hospitality. He worked in the Ministry of Commerce and Trade for 17 years, part of which he spent as the deputy head of the Hotel Management Department.

As the Soviet Union disbanded in the 1990s, Arif moved into the private sector to continue his aspirations to innovate in real estate and hospitality. He opened the first all-inclusive resort of its kind, the Labada Hotel in Turkey. Guests continue to enjoy the hotel to this day.

After Arif’s first projects overseas, he moved to New York City, where Bayrock Group saw serious growth at a rapid pace. One of the notable developments under the Bayrock Group in its early years was the renovation of Loehmann’s Seaport Plaza in Brooklyn. From here, Arif’s success moved forward with projects like the Trump SoHo.
