Safer Kid, Inc. today announced the release of SaferKid, a new service that notifies parents if their children install any of more than 200,000 apps of concern on an iPhone, iPod or iPad. The service notifies parents about all kinds of apps but puts an emphasis on apps used to meet strangers, apps associated with sexual assaults, apps used to hide photos when sexting and apps commonly used in bullying.

SaferKid sends alerts to parents if children or teens install Tinder, Grindr, Kik or thousands of other apps of concern.

“It’s a nightmare for parents to try to filter through all these apps,” said Cheyenne Ehrlich, Founder and CEO of SaferKid. “They have no idea which apps to be concerned about it, and there are way too many for them to ever learn about. So, we built a service that automates all of this and just tells parents what they need to know, when they need to know  it.”

SaferKid operates a directory of more than 200,000 apps of concern. Devices are scanned regularly for any apps that may be inappropriate (based on the child’s age). If something urgent is found, the parent receives an alert. If it’s not urgent, it is included in a weekly report of all apps that the parent should be aware  of.

In all cases, the parent is told why it’s an app of concern and is given links to parent’s guides, including information on why it may be risky or developmentally inappropriate and how to talk to a child or teen about  it.

The App Directory and Parent’s Guides are free of charge, and the SaferKid Alert service comes with a 30-Day Free  Trial.
